World’s Longest Lunch

Doubling down on the maximum Melbourne quality of the setting, we’ve invited Andrew McConnell, one of the city’s most lauded culinary talents to bring the magic to the World’s Longest Lunch this year.

The World’s Longest Lunch 2024, presented by La Trobe Financial, doubles down on the maximum Melbourne quality of the setting, inviting Andrew McConnell, one of the city’s most lauded culinary talents, to bring to the event some of the magic that has made venues such as Gimlet, Cumulus Inc, Supernormal and Cutler & Co essential highlights of the contemporary Australian dining landscape.

More than three decades on from its humble beginnings on the turf at the MCG in 1993, meanwhile, the World’s Longest Lunch now kicks off the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival each year with food from a celebrated chef served across more than 600 metres of table winding through Melbourne’s superb Kings Domain, in a spectacular dining experience that must be seen to be believed.

Andrew McConnell is the quintessential Melbourne chef, as interested in art, design and culture as he is prime produce, sustainable farming and switched-on service. After years of cooking in Shanghai, London and Hong Kong, the venues he opened on his return have defined our city’s style and shaped the tastes and expectations of a generation of its chefs, waiters and diners, from his early days at Dining room 211 and Three, One, Two through to such contemporary benchmarks as Cumulus Inc, Cutler & Co, Marion and Supernormal, and, that restaurant of the moment, Gimlet, and its new little sister, The Apollo Inn, as well as through his Meatsmith butcheries and Morning Market provedores.

Every ticket for this year’s World’s Longest Lunch, presented by La Trobe Financial, includes a three-course lunch designed by Andrew McConnell and prepared by MFWF’s official catering partner, Peter Rowland Group, with premium poultry from Aurum, wines by Tahbilk, beers from Brick Lane Brewing, still, sparkling and flavoured waters from Capi, coffee from Melbourne’s own Inglewood Coffee Roasters, all served by a team of waitstaff dressed to the nines by Cargo Crew.
